Linda Kirk of Yorktown Heights died of lung cancer on Sunday March
29th at her home in York town. She was 64 years old. Mrs Kirk worked as a
Reference Li brarian for The Field Library in Peekskill for 10 years before
re tiring in 2008. Mrs Kirk was born in 1945 in New York City to Walter and
Rose Donaldson. She was educated in the Bronx at James Monroe High School
where she was valedictorian for her graduating high school class. She earned
a Bachelors degree in math from City College in NYC, and later a Masters in
Library Science from Long Island Uni versity. While working at Albert
Einstein medical college in the early 70's she published a number of
scientific research papers on hemoglobin. On May 4th 1978 she married Stuart
Kirk in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Mrs Kirk lived in Yorktown for the past 30 years.
Locally she ran the Field Library bookstore in Peekskill and a girl scout
troop when her children were small. Mrs Kirk will be re membered for her
love of people, dedication to her family and friends, her love of books and
her humanity. She is survived by her daughters Stephanie and Kather ine, her
husband Stuart, mother Rose Donaldson and sister Joan Lukas. Calling hours
and a Me morial Service will be held 2 PM to 4 PM on Saturday April 4th at
Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights. In lieu of flowers Memo rial
Contributions may be made to The Field Library and sent to Si byl Canaan,
Director, The Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave, Peekskill, NY 10566, noting on
the check that it is in memory of Linda Kirk.

I am so sorry and shaken to hear about Linda. I knew her in hgh school and also when she and I both worked at the Albert Einstein College of Medciine in the 60s/70s. I never knew that she had become a librarian (as I am). Re: high school-- she was smarter than anybody and so modest! I remember that she was a whiz in math. She was just lovely. This is so sad.

I am so sorry to read of Linda's passing. We were never really friends in high school but got along very well. We sat next to each other in Journalism and other classes and I enjoyed her intelligence and humility. I am not at all surprised that she became a librarian..it suited her special style.
